This unique six-day itinerary blends the classic bush safari experience with the tropical marine paradise of Kenya’s Indian Ocean coast. It’s the perfect “bush and beach” combination — starting with Big Five game drives in Tsavo East before unwinding on the powdery white sands of Diani Beach, one of Africa’s most beautiful coastlines.

The safari portion takes you into Tsavo East, Kenya’s largest national park, where vast open landscapes and the famous red elephants create a sense of true wilderness. The park’s relatively low tourist numbers mean you’ll often have sightings entirely to yourself — a rare luxury in East Africa’s popular parks.

The coastal portion introduces a completely different side of Kenya. Diani Beach offers world-class snorkelling and diving on coral reefs teeming with tropical fish, sea turtles, and dolphins. A dhow sailing trip, visits to Shimba Hills for the rare sable antelope, and a walking tour of Mombasa’s atmospheric Old Town add layers of culture and adventure to the beach relaxation.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

1

Nairobi to Tsavo East

Early morning departure from Nairobi, driving southeast on the Mombasa Highway to Tsavo East National Park (approximately 5 hours). Enter through Mtito Andei Gate and begin game viewing immediately. Check in to your safari lodge and enjoy an afternoon game drive along the Voi River circuit, searching for elephants, lions, buffalo, and the park's prolific birdlife.

2

Full Day in Tsavo East

Full day exploring Tsavo East's vast landscapes. Morning drive to Mudanda Rock, a natural water catchment that attracts large herds of elephants. Visit the Aruba Dam where hippos, crocodiles, and waterbirds congregate. Afternoon drive through the red-soil plains where herds of red elephants dust-bathe. Look for lesser kudu, oryx, and gerenuk in the drier areas. Sundowner overlooking the savannah.

3

Tsavo East to Diani Beach

Morning game drive and breakfast. Drive to the Kenya coast, arriving at Diani Beach by early afternoon (approximately 4 hours from Tsavo East). Check in to your beachfront resort and spend the rest of the day relaxing on the white-sand beach, swimming in the turquoise Indian Ocean, or enjoying the resort facilities.

4

Diani Beach — Marine Safari

Morning dolphin watching and snorkelling excursion by boat. Head out to Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park where bottlenose and spinner dolphins are regularly spotted. Snorkel over pristine coral reefs with parrotfish, angelfish, moray eels, and sea turtles. Afternoon at leisure on the beach or optional scuba diving (additional cost).

5

Mombasa Old Town & Shimba Hills

Drive to Mombasa for a morning walking tour of the atmospheric Old Town — narrow streets, carved wooden doors, Fort Jesus (UNESCO World Heritage Site), and the spice markets. After lunch, optional visit to Shimba Hills National Reserve to see the rare sable antelope and Sheldrick Falls. Return to Diani for a sunset dhow sailing trip along the coast.

6

Diani to Departure

Morning at leisure for final beach time, shopping for coastal souvenirs, or a spa treatment. Transfer to Moi International Airport (Mombasa) or Ukunda Airstrip for your flight to Nairobi or onward destination. Alternatively, extend your beach stay — just ask us to customize.
