Mount Kenya is Africa’s second-highest peak and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This five-day trekking adventure takes you through some of the continent’s most spectacular and varied mountain landscapes — from dense bamboo and rosewood forests through the otherworldly giant lobelia and groundsel zone to the glacial peaks above 4,000 metres.
The route combines the Sirimon trail for the ascent with the more dramatic Chogoria route for the descent, giving you the best of both sides of the mountain. The Sirimon approach offers gentler acclimatization through beautiful moorland valleys, while the Chogoria descent passes through the stunning Gorges Valley and alongside the vivid blue-green waters of Lake Michaelson.
The main trekking objective is Point Lenana (4,985m), the highest non-technical summit on Mount Kenya. No climbing experience or special equipment is needed for this peak — just reasonable fitness, warm clothing, and a sense of adventure. The sunrise from Point Lenana, with views stretching across the Central Highlands to the distant plains, is one of East Africa’s most rewarding moments.
