Day-by-Day Itinerary

1

Moshi to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Drive to Londorossi Gate. Three-hour forest hike through rainforest spotting Colobus monkeys.

Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp

Landscape transitions from rainforest to savannah grassland and heather with early glacier views.

Shira 1 to Shira 2 Camp

Acclimatization day exploring the Shira Plateau. Easy hike through meadows and Senecio forest.

Shira 2 to Lava Tower to Moir Hut

Ascend 700m to the Lava Tower (4,640m), then divert to secluded Moir Hut. Optional supplementary hikes.

Moir Hut to Buffalo Camp

Moderately steep climbs through the Lent Hills. Camp features breathtaking views of the Tanzania-Kenya border plains.

Buffalo Camp to Third Cave

Trek through wild, remote valleys and windswept terrain on the northern slopes where few climbers venture.

Third Cave to School Hut

Cross the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi glaciers through alpine desert. Short day with early dinner before summit attempt.

Summit — Uhuru Peak (5,895m)

Start after midnight for a 5-7 hour hike to Stella Point, then two more hours to Uhuru Peak. Witness sunrise at the roof of Africa. Descend to Mweka Camp.

9

Mweka Camp to Moshi

Final descent through rainforest to Mweka Gate. Celebration with porters and guides, certificate presentation, and transfer to Moshi.
