Angama Mara

Angama Mara sits on the very edge of the Oloololo Escarpment in the Mara Triangle, the spot made famous by the film Out of Africa. The lodge’s name comes from the Swahili word for “suspended in mid-air” — and that is exactly how it feels. Two intimate camps of 15 tented suites each hang above the Great Rift Valley floor, offering views that stretch endlessly across the Masai Mara.

Each glass-fronted suite features hand-stitched Maasai beading, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a private deck. The lodge’s photographic studio, beading workshop, and shamba garden give guests immersive cultural experiences alongside twice-daily game drives into the reserve.

Hot-air balloon safaris launch from the escarpment at dawn, drifting over herds of wildebeest and zebra during the Great Migration. The lodge’s Shamba restaurant serves farm-to-table meals with ingredients from its own kitchen garden.
