The Ark Lodge

The Ark is one of Kenya’s most famous lodges, built in the shape of Noah’s Ark in the heart of the Aberdare National Park forest. The lodge overlooks a floodlit waterhole and salt lick that attract a steady stream of wildlife, including elephants, buffalo, giant forest hog, and the elusive bongo antelope.

Multiple viewing decks on different levels allow guests to observe animals at close range, while a ground-level bunker provides eye-level views. A buzzer system alerts sleeping guests when rare animals appear at the waterhole during the night.

The Ark offers a unique wildlife experience — rather than driving to find animals, the animals come to you. The surrounding forest is also home to black leopards, making this one of the few places where melanistic big cats have been photographed.
