Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park, located at the foot of Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro, is one of Kenya’s most popular safari destinations. Covering 392 square kilometres of arid landscapes, seasonal lakes, and wetlands fed by Kilimanjaro’s melting snows, the park offers a unique combination of wildlife viewing and breathtaking mountain scenery.

Amboseli is renowned for its large herds of free-ranging elephants — some of the best-studied in the world thanks to the Amboseli Elephant Research Project, running since 1972. On clear days, the sight of elephants silhouetted against the snow-capped peak of Kilimanjaro is one of Africa’s most iconic photographic opportunities.

The park’s wetlands and springs attract an abundance of birdlife, with over 400 species recorded, including pelicans, kingfishers, and martial eagles. Predators such as lions, cheetahs, and spotted hyenas roam the open plains alongside herds of wildebeest, zebra, and giraffe.

Visitors can experience Maasai culture at nearby communities, take guided nature walks in the surrounding group ranches, and enjoy sundowner cocktails with Kilimanjaro views. The park is easily accessible, just a 4-hour drive from Nairobi or a 45-minute charter flight.
