Tsavo West National Park

Tsavo West National Park covers 9,065 square kilometres of diverse terrain ranging from open plains to volcanic hills, lava flows, and dense bush. More mountainous and wetter than its eastern counterpart, Tsavo West offers some of Kenya’s most varied and dramatic landscapes.

The park’s star attraction is Mzima Springs — a series of crystal-clear natural springs that produce 250 million litres of fresh water daily from underground volcanic rock filtration. An underwater observation chamber allows visitors to watch hippos and fish swimming in the impossibly clear water.

Other highlights include Shetani Lava Flow, a 200-year-old volcanic lava field, and Chaimu Crater, which can be climbed for panoramic views. The Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary within the park protects a growing population of black rhinos behind an electrified fence.

Tsavo West is home to all the Big Five plus diverse wildlife including gerenuk, lesser kudu, and over 600 bird species. The park’s proximity to the coast makes it ideal for combining a bush safari with a beach holiday in Diani or Mombasa.
