Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls, known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya (“The Smoke That Thunders”), is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. The Zambezi River plunges 108 metres over a 1,708-metre-wide basalt lip, creating the world’s largest sheet of falling water.

The falls are a UNESCO World Heritage Site viewable from both Zimbabwe and Zambia. The Zimbabwean side offers the most complete panoramic views from a network of pathways along the gorge rim. During peak flow (March-May), the spray rises 400 metres into the air and is visible from 50 kilometres away.

Adventure activities abound: white-water rafting on the Zambezi, bungee jumping from the Victoria Falls Bridge, helicopter “Flight of Angels” tours, sunset river cruises, and swimming in the famous Devil’s Pool on the Zambian edge during low water season.
