Kibale National Park

Kibale National Park in western Uganda protects 795 square kilometres of tropical rainforest and is one of the finest primate-watching destinations in all of Africa. The park supports the highest density and diversity of primates on the continent — 13 species including over 1,500 chimpanzees.

Chimpanzee trekking is the star attraction, with habituated communities providing close encounters as these intelligent primates forage, socialise, and display in their natural habitat. The full-day “chimpanzee habituation experience” allows visitors to spend an entire day following a chimp family being habituated to human presence.

Other primates include L’Hoest’s monkeys, red colobus, grey-cheeked mangabey, and olive baboons. Over 370 bird species make it excellent for birding. A night walk reveals bushbabies, pottos, and other nocturnal creatures.
