Cape Winelands

The Cape Winelands, less than an hour from Cape Town, is South Africa’s premier wine region and one of the most beautiful wine-producing areas in the world. The main towns of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, and Paarl are set in valleys surrounded by imposing mountain ranges, with centuries-old Cape Dutch homesteads and oak-lined avenues.

Stellenbosch, founded in 1679, is the second-oldest European settlement in South Africa and a vibrant university town with excellent restaurants and galleries. Franschhoek, the “French Corner,” was settled by Huguenot refugees and today rivals any food destination globally.

Over 200 wine estates offer tastings, cellar tours, and gourmet dining. Signature varietals include Pinotage (South Africa’s own grape), Chenin Blanc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Stellenbosch Wine Route and Franschhoek Wine Tram make exploring effortless.
