Selenkay Conservancy

Selenkay Conservancy covers 15,000 acres of Maasai community land to the north of Amboseli National Park. Established as a partnership between local Maasai landowners and conservation operators, Selenkay has become a model for community-based wildlife conservation in Kenya.

The conservancy’s semi-arid landscape of open grasslands, scattered acacia trees, and seasonal swamps provides habitat for elephants, lions, cheetahs, giraffes, and a rich diversity of birdlife. The area is particularly renowned for its predator populations, with frequent sightings of lion prides and cheetah families.

Selenkay offers activities that are restricted inside national parks: guided walking safaris with armed rangers, night game drives to spot nocturnal species, and immersive visits to working Maasai homesteads. The conservancy fees directly support the community, funding schools, clinics, and livestock compensation programs.
