Kimana Sanctuary

Kimana Sanctuary is a 5,700-acre community-owned wildlife conservancy located on the eastern boundary of Amboseli National Park. Established to protect a critical wildlife corridor between Amboseli, Tsavo, and Chyulu Hills, the sanctuary is managed by the Kimana community in partnership with conservation organizations.

The sanctuary offers exclusive, low-density game viewing with Amboseli’s famous elephant herds frequently passing through. With far fewer vehicles than the national park, visitors enjoy intimate wildlife encounters against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. Lions, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, and over 300 bird species inhabit the area.

Night game drives, bush walks, and cultural visits to Maasai homesteads are available — activities not permitted inside Amboseli National Park. The sanctuary plays a vital role in human-wildlife coexistence, providing income to the local community while preserving wildlife habitats.
